He is one of the best artists at Nguyen Art Gallery who specialized in oil on canvas with topics from Nude, Portrait to Landscape. His artworks are collected by many private collectors around the world. He is also a member of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association.

Mai Huy Dung’s Quote about Art

“When standing before a pure white canvas, my heart and mind seem not to have space for academic counts and I started to paint as a sleep-walking man does, returning to the unconscious instinct. Perhaps, when I behold my pictures once more time, I realize that sometimes I am so gentle, sometimes madly violent, hot, and even fierce. Sometimes, I ask myself why I have so much inspiration for the female body? The answer may be simple: I am a man. For dry men, they consider women as just human beings with those organs, but for amorous men, women are the very wonders; each body brings you different feelings which are always fresh and seduced. The female body is always the reason for me to free my feelings from tender and sweet strokes to fierce and hot anger. Feels has daily streamed out through mild and listless gestures, sometimes tense and neat ones. For me, painting is a party of “form of colors” dedicated to women’s bodies. Such a form is always lively with clear feelings of ceaseless and tender movements. Such colors are sweet, salty, bitter… One person asked me: why do your pictures contain deep ideas about life? Such an interesting question. Perhaps, each artist has his own living environment, which makes everyone certain emotions. Artworks shall be only good when the painter illustrates his own feelings. Life seems to reserve me favorable conditions and I am always full of feelings for women. I have borrowed the female body to demonstrate my emotional states as well as ideas about movements of colors. For me, painting is living.”

artist nguyen hong giang

Nguyen Hong Giang
Artist

Nguyen Hong Giang was born in 1980 in Hanoi. He graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Fine Arts in 2013.

The first line of paintings selected by Hong Giang is an oil painting with the theme of human life. In 2015, he participated in the National Fine Arts Exhibition with 1 oil painting on canvas.

In early 2016, he started to try his hand at Lacquer line with paintings depicting Hanoi Streets. And since then, 36 Hanoi streets and elegant Hanoians gradually appear over time in Hong Giang’s paintings. At first, the street was still very rustic, with simple drawings and gentle colors like the artist himself.

With lacquer material, Hong Giang also composed more themes about flowers, especially about lotus. “My paintings are ordered by collectors, so I don’t sell them in the Gallery…”. To wait for a painting by Hong Giang, collectors need to wait from 1 to 3 months to receive extremely quality artworks.

Recognizing that Hong Giang is an extremely serious artist, he prunes every detail for his paintings day and night. From idea to sketch, the minimum time is 2 weeks. Nguyen Art Gallery has been proudly accompanying him for many years and has become a bridge between artists and domestic and international collectors.

As Auguste Rodin said, “The artist must create a spark before he can light a fire, and before art is born, the artist must be ready to let his own creative fire consume him.” And Nguyen Hong Giang created his own spark and the flame of passion for painting seemed to have “swallowed” him.
