From 2001 to 2006, Nguyen Sy Hieu studied Lacquer painting at Tran Thieu Nam’s art factory. Since 2006 till now he is freely composing painting products (especially lacquer painting). He already produced a collection of arts inside and outside Vietnam.

Nguyen Sy Hieu’s artistic practice centers on a profound and spontaneous engagement with traditional Vietnamese lacquer painting. Since 2007, he has focused his creative energy on the theme of the lotus, capturing the rustic, tranquil, and pure essence of the Vietnamese countryside. Eschewing rigid, premeditated blueprints, Hieu adopts an intuitive, improvisational approach, allowing his compositions to unfold naturally with a sense of expansive, open freedom. While his work may appear minimalist or subdued in tone at first glance, a closer look reveals an intricate “symphony” of layered textures and delicate color transitions embedded within the smooth lacquer surface, demonstrating a masterful command of this traditional medium.
