Artist Le Khanh Hieu – Vietnamese Lacquer Paintings – Nguyen Art Gallery

Artist Le Khanh Hieu was born in 1971 in Hanoi. He graduated from Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts, Faculty of Traditional Fine Arts, majoring in Lacquer in 1995. Besides, he is also a member of the Hanoi Fine Arts Association.

“Le Khanh Hieu was born and raised in a small street of Hanoi, spending his entire childhood climbing tamarinds and crocodiles with poor children. Maybe that’s why he feels so strongly about the rustic and simple things of Hanoi and the countryside he once wandered. He is a person who lives slowly, extremely slowly. Even though Hanoi is so different from before, he is still a survivor from a long time ago. Because of living so slowly, painting is also slow. I was only in my fifties when I exhibited for the first time in my life. And that slow life, combined with the old style of lacquer painting, gave birth to works imbued with the essence of Le Khanh Hieu – a Hanoian countryman.” – Artist Mai Huy Dung commented.

In 2024, artist Le Khanh Hieu organized a personal exhibition “Son Mai Hieu” in Hanoi.
