Founded by several architects in the city, the after-work painting club will feature 60 works by five group members and three friends who use different mediums, styles and genres.

“We paint when we have free time after long hours at construction sites or design offices,” said Dang Cong Huan, the group’s leader.
Huan’s works are traditional. He paints characters from the 19th century epic poem The Tale of Kieu, Viet Nam’s most prized literary work.

Images of flowers, women and the moon are romantically featured in Le Thi Minh Tam’s paintings, all of which are 80sq.cm in size. She teaches at the city’s Architecture College.
Au Khoa Toan uses pure, soft and harmonious colours to depict rural landscapes and the ancient town of Hoi An.
“For us architects, the canvas is a release from the strict confines of straight lines and blueprints,” Toan said.

Warm and strong colours such as brown, green and red bring Le Hoai Nam’s oil paintings to life.
The exhibition also displays works by the group’s friends, pianist Trinh Nhat Anh and two painters, Tran Thi Ngoc Thuy and Nguyen Thi Quynh Hoa.
Anh started painting after she retired from the Ha Noi Conservatory of Music in 1992. She is showing 10 abstract paintings that feature flowers and fruits.
The exhibition at 218A Pasteur Street, District 3, HCM City, will last until April 1. — VNS
